Three Points of Contact – Part Deux
Gear: Trials and ErrorsUtah Trip
Everyone will be happy to know, I’m sure, that we have made a decision regarding our trekking poles. I know you all have been on the edge of your seat since last Saturday morning waiting for the notification that a new email has arrived that will satisfy your insatiable desire to know what we have at last decided. No?…Okay then, maybe my life is not as exciting as I think it is. Nonetheless, here goes.
In addition to asking you all for help, we reached out to some blogging friends of ours. Most helpful of which was our friends over at Nature Tech Family. Although they did not have the answers themselves, they reached out to some friends of theirs and got us some feedback. Just a side note to say how much we enjoy the hiking community. There are always those ready and willing to help if you just ask. We want everyone to love and enjoy nature as much as we do and we have found that to be true of the hiking community as a whole, as well.
Unfortunately, we do not live close to any gear shops. We went to the local sporting goods store, but we didn’t like their trekking pole…that’s right, I said pole, as in one singular pole. Not a pair of poles…ONE POLE! The closest gear store of any size and selection is 1-1/2 hours away. I’m sure this is true of a lot of people so we chose the option that is available to most…Amazon Prime. The selection is varied, as we discussed last week, and prices are competitive with reasonably fast availability when using the two-day shipping Prime offers.
We opted to go with several different brands with some varying options so that we could offer our own assessment based on our experience at some point in the future. You know, Three Points of Contact-Part Trois or something like that. We purchased Black Diamond Woman’s, Cascade Mountain Tech, Hiker Hunger, Trail Ergo, and Cloud Ripper. Some carbon fiber and some aluminum. Some with cork handles and some with foam. Anyway, here are the links to the specific poles we purchased. We’ll let you know what we think after we use them for a while.
Funny thing happened while I was researching and purchasing the poles. SweetPea, was watching over my shoulder and asked what I was doing? I explained and she asked about trekking poles for dogs. The cat, Rusty, was sitting across the room listening to the conversation and very sarcastically comments, “Four legs, three points of contact…duh.”
Have a good week folks. Get out and adventure!
Mike
